Hello my lovelies! In today’s post I thought I’d address some of the questions I’ve been getting in my inbox reagrding blogging as a business. I used to answer all of them separately, but lately so many of you guys have reached out to me with very similar questions, so here are the answers to your most frequently asked questions in a compact blog post for you.
Question No. 1:
What is your daily routine as a full time blogger?
I wish I could answer this question in a single sentence, but due to the extensive range of different tasks I have to do, every week is a completely new adventure. Since I’ve taken Dolce Petite to the next level, blogging full time, the only thing I do an a daily basis is getting out my notebook while I drink my first matcha latte in the morning. I always write down my to do list, choosing three tasks that absolutely have to be finished that day. Any tasks beyond that are optional. This way I focus on what’s important, rather than spending my day doing time consuming tasks that aren’t even important.
To be really efficient I try to block my activities, for example: I plan out all my Instagram posts fort he week on one day, I shoot all my blog photos on another day and then I answer all the emails that have been piling up in my inbox over the week. If I would try to juggle all these tasks whenever they are due, I’m sure it would end in complete chaos.
Most of the time, I plan these blocked activities around any events or press invitations I have that week. These meetings are pretty time consuming, but apart from the networking aspect they help me to always be up to date with the latest beauty and fashion launches. I love when I’m able to combine a meeting with a photo shoot!
Question No. 2:
What camera do you use and how do you edit your pictures?
Currently I shoot all my blog photos on a Nikon D5300 with a 50 mm 1:1,8G lens. I take all photos in RAW modus rather than JPEG, and I apply lighting and colouring edits and small retouching in Photoshop. My latest camera purchase for traveling is a Canon G7x Mark II and next on my list is upgrading my Nikon to a full frame camera!
Some of my Instagram pictures are blog photos that I’ve shot with my DSLR, but when I need a quick photo for social media I absolutely rely on my iPhone 7 Plus. I especially love the portrait mode, which allows me to take photos that almost have that depth of field and DSLR feel to themHere is an example from my trip to Vietnam. To edit the photos I take on my phone, I love to use Snapseed and VSCO. My favorite app to lay out and plan my feed is UNUM, which is a free app that even lets you plan your caption and hashtags. It really makes the posting workflow much easier and keeps you from having to delete a photo that just doesn’t fit your feed ☺
Question No. 3:
What are your top tips for bloggers who are just starting out?
Like many others I have made the rookie mistake of starting my blog on Blogger. I strongly recommend for anyone who wants to start out to do so on WordPress. From my experience you’re going to transfer your blog to WordPress sooner or later, and the migration is pretty stressful and time consuming.
Before creating a whole website and possibly buying expensive camera gear I suggest just trying out posting regularly on Instagram to see if you enjoy it. You can build a small community and get a feeling for what content you want to produce or what direction you want to take in blogging.
And the last thing I want to recommend are blogger conferences! Here in Austria I love the Fashioncamp Vienna conference: It provides insight into all the important subjects that are essential for blogging. Another reason to attend a conference ist the social aspect: Most of the colleagues that I’ve met at these events have become shooting partners and even friends. I think that the biggest part of learning comes from the network you create for yourself.
