A guide to looking undone when you’re not
If you’re coming to my blog for outfit inspiration, chances are very high we share some preferences in aesthetics and style. Quite possibly, you too are someone who naturally gravitates towards those more special pieces. Basics just aren’t as much fun as unexpected colors, fancy materials and intricate details.
However I always strive to style myself to look effortless, because no one really wants to look like they’re trying very hard, right?
My tips for an effortless look
Color palette
Going for those unexpected color combinations might seem fun and adventurous, but more often than not we feel much more comfortable in colors that perfectly match our personal aesthetic. This rule of thumb applies more to the intensity and tint/temperature than to the color itself. If you aren’t yet, get aware of your ideal color palette! A wonderful tool to do so is Pinterest. Just quickly screen your feed and analyze its color palette.
Less is more
Limit your accessories to the essentials. There is no such thing as the perfect number of accessories – it differs from person to person. The general rule is to just go with what you’re absolutely comfortable with. For me, this is a set of pearl earrings, and on busy days I like to pair a watch with a bracelet. Stacked rings, bright nail polish or bag charms would just not be comfortable for me.

regardez-vous dans le miroir
et enlevez un accessoire.”

Comfortable materials
Especially in the summertime, high quality and breathable fabrics are your safest bet to feel and look comfortable. After all, the most beautiful and stunning look will not make you feel confident if you’re feeling unbearably hot underneath. Choose natural fibers and breezy, flowy styles. I love my Malou shirt dress from Edited for this: It is 100% cotton and has become my perfect summer dress.
Contrast
Playing with opposites is a wonderful way of adding that special interest to a look and always keeping the balance between dressy and casual. A stunning piece of clothing becomes suitable for day-to-day wear when combined with a laid back counterpart. For example, delicate fabrics pair beautifully with more stirdy ones like leather.
Pinching, tweaking, fidgeting
Make absolutely sure your clothing fits perfectly – steady fidgeting around is quite the opposite of an effortless look.
An impeccable, slightly oversized fit is the best option and always looks laid back.
